Dilophosaurus lived during the early Jurassic period in what is now Arizona. The fossils were first found in the 1940s in the Kayentarock formation USA. Dilophosaurus was among the largest of carnivores at the time about 7 meters long. On its head were a pair of rounded crests these bony structures are a very defining characteristic and are thought to have been used to attract mates, and intimidate rivals in the group when fighting, and for intimidating potential predators of other species.
